Bio

My parents named me Barry Justin Uyterlinde, after my dad. They wanted to call me “BJ” but that never panned out, and two Barry’s around would have been confusing, so they stuck with Justin!

I started working at Vankleek Hill Veterinary Services right after graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2013. After meeting Dr. Smith at a conference during my last year as a student, Darryl invited me to the clinic to meet the producers and to visit the area. I found this part of Ontario to be very similar to where I grew up – lots of dairy farms and friendly people. I accepted Darryl’s job offer upon graduating, and became a partner in 2017.

I grew up on my family’s dairy and poultry farm in Brackley, PEI. I love working with cows, they are the reason I became a veterinarian. They are beautiful creatures! I have a special interest in dairy cattle genetics, reproduction and embryo transfer. I am part of the Canadian Embryo Transfer Association and run the ET unit at our clinic. My wife and I manage a 100 cow dairy in L’Orignal, alongside her parents. We enjoy breeding our Holstein herd for high type and production with a small herd of Wagyu beef cattle on the side. My free time is spent on our family farm with my wife, our son and our 2 dogs. When I can find the time, I really enjoy playing music, watching soccer and traveling back to PEI to visit with family. During my post-secondary education, I was fortunate enough to play in a small, local band called “Milks & Rectangles”. We recorded a couple dozen songs together and toured around the Maritimes a few weekends a year.

I love being a part of the ever-changing dairy industry in Canada. Alongside our team at Vankleek Hill, I hope to be able to continue supporting local dairy farmers to help ensure that the industry remains enjoyable, sustainable and profitable.
