Dr. Marie-Eve Borris

Veterinarian | Senior Associate

Bio

I grew up on a dairy farm in Vankleek Hill. It is still unclear whether I decided to be a veterinarian after watching the movie Doctor Dolittle or if it’s because of the motivation to be able to cure all those sick barn cats with sticky eyes on the family farm. Fast-forward to present day, I love what I do, and I feel privileged to be a part of the dairy industry and to work with passionate dairy farmers that have animal well-being at heart.

I graduated in 2015 from University of Montreal’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Saint-Hyacinthe. After graduation, I decided to refine my knowledge and I earned a spot for a one year internship program in bovine practice at St. Hy. I spent one third of my time in the school’s large-animal hospital (CHUV) and the rest of the year at the ambulatory clinic associated with the university. During my internship I completed a project on pulmonary lesions on 150 calves, using an ultrasounding technique to visualize the lungs; a technique which I still try to incorporate in my day-to-day practice. I still very much like to use the ultrasound for complementary diagnostic outside of reproduction purposes.

After completing my internship, I joined Vankleek Hill Veterinary Services in June 2016. To one day be working for VKHVS was a childhood dream since Dr. MacLeod, Dr. Collard and Dr. Smith came at the family farm. Now in practice, my professional interests include: herd health medicine, complex bovine medicine cases and small ruminants.

Outside of veterinary medicine, I like to spend time outside with my family, and I also like to go see plays, musicals and standup comedy. I did lots of improvisation in high school and one day I plan on revisiting my artistic side that is just waiting to emerge again. I like to watch my daughter Aurélie discover life and I am slowly realizing that she does speak just as much as me. I like to play games: word games, trivia games or guessing games but don’t ask me to play cards. I like cows with unusual spots. It brings a smile to my face every time. There is nothing to brighten my day more than when I have to cut open a mature abscess full of fibrin. I think it excites me just the same as going for soft serve ice cream at Chocolats Favoris! (and that is saying something, because I never say no to ice cream!)
